APPG visits Wincanton
Last Friday, the APPG on Road Freight and Logistics alongside its Chair, Greg Smith MP, were invited to visit Wincanton’s WEB & Innovation Centre in Rockingham, Northamptonshire. Wincanton is a leading supply chain partner for British business, with over 170 locations, 5380 drivers, 16.1m square feet of warehouse space to provide business critical services.
Through a tour of the innovation lab, the APPG heard about the different roles automation and technology can play in logistics and witnessed the potential of automation and robotics in their operational delivery. Visiting one of Wincanton’s warehouses allowed the APPG to visualise the operations in action and see the scale of the supply chain delivery at Wincanton. The APPG also participated in a roundtable discussion with Wincanton colleagues about skills, training and jobs and operations access across the sector. Hearing from participants of their Cygnets scheme, a part time work scheme for 16 to 18 year olds, offered a fascinating insight into the future of the industry.
Thank you to Wincanton for your hospitality and for showing us your role in the future of logistics
