Freight and Logistics APPG welcomes Government decision to extend fuel duty cut
The APPG for Freight and Logistics welcomes the Government's decision to roll out several measures to reduce the negative impacts of rising fuel prices.
Announced measures include:
An extension to the 5p fuel duty cut until the end of the year
A 12-month vehicle tax holiday for hauliers saving up to £912 per vehicle
Red diesel duty cut by over a third, supporting users including rail freight operators
This is a package of vital support for the logistics sector and fuel users more widely.
We welcome this news as a necessary step in protecting the UK's logistics businesses, and by extention the wider economy, from the growing fuel crisis caused by the war in Iran.
Today's news will provide welcome respite and support for businesses that carry our economy and are struggling to stay in the black.
Rachel Taylor, Chair of the APPG for Freight and Logistics, said:
"In my constituency and across the country, I've seen first-hand how hard logistics professionals have worked to keep their industry going in recent months. Our supply chains are robust and have proven their excellence through the minimised price impacts we have seen so far. It is fantastic to now see the Government taking measures to protect our logistics businesses with concrete measures that will have real impact."
The APPG will continue to campaign for measures to mitigate against rising fuel costs, protecting businesses and consumers.
